10,000 hits

We've only been going for six weeks but already this blog has generated more than 10,000 hits, which shows how interested people are in this issue.
Everybody who visits the blog has come through word of mouth. We've had no publicity yet we've grown because of the grassroots network of campaigners locally and throughout Wales and beyond. Thanks.
Your comments also show how passionate many people feel about the ongoing scandal of landfill at the Hafod. It's been great to have so much feedback so quickly. We know that those in power read this blog and that they have been shaken to the core by the message you've put over so relentlessly. It's been a shock to these complacent politicians (locally, in Cardiff and on Merseyside) to see their actions - or inaction - put under the spotlight. Long may it continue!
We'll continue to highlight the campaign and expose those responsible for this sorry mess until Hafod is closed down.

Hello Hafod and freinds,
On behalf of the waste carriers and associated companies I would just like to say a big thank you for all your efforts.
The extra publicity brought by your campaine has made Hafod Quarry Landfill well known in Wales as well as North West and Midlands regions of England. We will be having a very busy winter and will be looking forward to a profitable future.
Here is to the next 10,000.

Oh dear. From what I hear the protest was far from peacefull this morning. You were lucky that it didn't get out of hand. But I am sure the police will do their job.

It was nearly murder this morning. When some protesters were standing very visibly at the gate, an incoming wagon accelerated towards them and nearly mowed them down.

I ask myself what the men driving these wagons can be thinking of. Do they really believe that their lorryload of crap is more important than human life? What if someone does get hurt or killed? Will the driver be able to sleep at night?

So, Mr Doe and co. Think about what you're doing. It's a job. You're being paid to shift rubbish around, not as hitmen. If someone gets in your way, stop and let the police sort it out. Saying that they shouldn't have been there isn't going to be much of a defence in court.

If John Doe works for Murky Waste Holdings, he's going to be looking for another job in 18 months' time... a little bird tells us the company will not be getting Mersey councils' dumping contract from October 2008.
Hope you have enough money to retire to Spain, JD...

reading some of these comments on this blog is like reading the Evening Leader its either a load of miss informed information or old news, and if you live in nant parc you get them pushed through your door free of charge, please paper boy could you please forward it on to the hafod landfill site.
I work not far from Hafod and live in johnstown and cant believe what rubbish i read in the papers and do gooders knocking on my door for money for this so called good cause, ask the rich farmers who are wanting to sell the land to property developers, before long New Hall road will be a houseing estate.Nightingale hospice are always after people with plenty of time on there hands who will help them raise money to help nurse sick people and not some bloody newt , which i have heard has 5 star treatment since hafod was sold in 1995,where were the do gooders then when the quarry was been dug for clay with no thought for a newt, and i bet now the whistle blowers havent a clue what a GCN looks like.

Still i hold my head up high every Monday when i push my wheelie bin out to the gate knowing it goes to landfill, where ever it may be as i am not hyprocrital or have a political agenda, or just sad with no purpose to life.

Answer to GCN is great crested newt.

Fair play - didn't know ostriches could read and write. Unfortunately they still bury their heads out of the sand (or landfill).

So Raffles/JD/anon, you love landfill, think no-one knows what a GCnewt looks like, and is proud of the amount of black bin rubbish you create? Hmmm, are you sure you've got no political agenda?

Protecting a job perhaps?

GCnewts are deserving of environmental protection as are people.

Reading your post, I thought of Labour1970's, dirty council rhetoric of 'short term thinking'. Plenty of that kind of mentality in Wrexham council still and that is why dinosaurs like you/them need to revise your thinking.

PS,Your Evening Leader should not be going to landfill, you put it in your 'papers' bag for recycling.

Or this, from Northmoor Trust website.
Ecology of the great crested newt.

'They often occur in large quarry ponds and old clay and sand pits and are therefore threatened by landfill and other destructive activities. Other threats to great crested newts, and amphibians in general, include pollution (amphibians have absorbent skins and are therefore at particular risk from some pollutants), direct human effect (e.g. motor traffic, road gully pots, collection of eggs, tadpoles and adults), and disease.'

This kind of article is why I seriously doubt the conservation issues have been given proper regard.

Hi blod,
I like most people recycle at home. As I have said before I am not for landfill but I am waiting for somebody to offer an alternative. 1970s Labour blub blub or anything to do with political agendas, as far as I can see every person who involves themseleves in politics has some good points to make but are for the most part arseholes.
Landfill or recycling plant, it makes no difference to me as far as work goes. I still make money. Your protest group had my support untill I realised the sort of lies you prepared to tell and amount of bullshit you were prepared to get printed in the local rags just to protect house prices. If this was not the case you would have been as visable at Pen Y Bont as you are at Hafod. That is where Wrexham tip after all. That is where your black bins are emptied but your not being there speaks volumes to the rest of us. Lets face it, 60 people at a meeting is hardly the majority of Wrexham is it?

JD - take a look at the "Zero Waste" post to see what is possible. It's not pie in the sky, it's actually happening about 130 miles from Hafod.
Of course, stopping supermarkets from over-packaging products will take a few years and other systems to reduce waste will take time to kick in but a bit of political willpower goes a long way.
I agree most politicians are in it for themselves but not all. Some have done their bit while others have let us down badly.

My argument is not about house prices per se, it is the REASON the houses are worth less that is the root of dismay; they become undesirable places to live. Many of the residences are council properties and the tenants are just as angry as home owners, as it will affect 'the peaceful enjoyment of their property' - a right stated in the tenants' handbook!

Noise, pollution , vermin, smells are all going to increase as the site continues and it WILL affect quality of life.
The GCnewts are also victims of the site location and will be affected too.

The smaller landfill sites in Wrexham are nearing the end of their 'natural lifespan';a protest there would be a bit of a red herring. For most of us we fear this monstrosity is being lined up as the next place for massive landfill not only for Wrexham to dump but other areas too, councils that may not have developed the waste facilities to meet the 2010 and onwards criteria.
That is the probable future issue facing Hafod, best dealt with by protesting at the Hafod site rather than a lesser potential long term threat.

Hafod is a clear case of profit over people and that's why it's fundamentally wrong.

Mr Fleer, sorry i may of miss lead you a little.

I or should i say we as a family do reclcle everyweek as do alot of people, and as for the wildlife and the enviroment i do care, having worked on several dozen projects throughout wales free of charge i may add proves this.

My gripe is the individuals within the group which are doing for a political reason and the ones which are there to just cause trouble.

Until our so called elected leaders give us a better option than to bury or burn our waste we will always have this problem, or are the people on the hafod gate leading by example and recycling 100% of there rubbish and it is not going to landfill ? i doubt it some how.

In one blog comment it is only sunday dinners and nappies that are getting tipped at hafod,We won't have much to worry about if cllr Pritchard sunday dinners are going to landfill by judging by the size of his waste, and how the hell can he talk about landfill when his dept is the second worst in wales for recycling, and to top it off he supports bloody liverpool, now there is a man that runs with the foxs and hounds, he could do with some running tough, fat bastard.

so you want people to support you when on this blog there are threats of violence to people that work at hafod like jd what happend to freedom of speach, still that idiot who is threating to harm traitors is probably a wife beater, or a kiddie fiddler from that hostel in plas madoc, now thats where you should go and protest aswell as raise money for the hospice.

As for the evening leader i pick my dog shit up with it un like many people in nant parc and leave it for a oap's to stand in.

Raffles,
Firstly I am not a Mr! If you must ascribe a title to me please use Ms.

I am pleased to learn that you have some love for the environment as your previous post seems to fly in the face of this.

I do not 'hold my head up with pride' as I put my black bin out, I feel sorry that companies insist on forcing me to purchase packaging I have no option but to throw into landfill. wherever I can, I buy without packaging or use alternatives. Like many my black bin is often nearly empty on collection days so the recycling scheme is of great benefit. I work hard to reduce it further.

The politics of landfill exist because those who say they care, clearly do not. You say the politics do not interest you but waste no time in being very personal towards a cllr. Why is that? have you a personal gripe? I am pleased when a local politician tries to get a threat to his/her community removed, aren't you? Even if I may not hold with their politics. (As long as they are genuine!!!!)

I think your nasty assertions about the moral compasses of angry protesters are unfounded and not worthy of comment, they make you appear slightly unstable, certainly with a chip on your shoulder. JD has had his blogs put up, so has exercised his right to free speech as have you. I have never advocated violence towards anyone on this site but can understand how frustration can well up when such an injustice as Hafod is allowed to continue.

I am pleased you recycle your Leader to good effect when out with your dog, and understand the anger at dog fouling which I understand cllr Dave Bithell is also keen to address, indeed, has made significant improvements on in the area.
