European Capital of Culture?

Is this really how a civilised city disposes of its waste - by dumping it, tonnes at a time, fifty miles away and just a few metres from people’s houses and our children's school?

And then they have the front to bid for, win and accept the title 'European Capital of Culture'!

To Liverpool city councillors.

What have you done with the £6m of taxpayers money you were given to establish a recycling scheme?

MWH have answered this question some time ago when some of us attended a meeting in Liverpool.

Check out the new state of the art recycling plant planned for Sefton.

So it would appear that Liverpool are in a similar position to Wrexham now. While the new facility is being constructed landfill remains the only viable option. Not forgetting that Hafod is used by North Wales people too.

Just not good enough, both Wrexham (note the Dirty Dozen) and Liverpool have dragged their council feet for far too long and all we have had is one excuse after another.
The common factor is that we have nothing more than useless councillors who are only interested in their own self interest and do not attempt to address any issue that confronts them.

Where are their highly paid advisers who are also paid out of public funds?
Council tax continues to rise and the services depreciate.

I get to take / collect kids from school EVERY day - when did YOU last take / collect yours?

Just had a count up - my kids do 14 out of school activities EVERY week - I take them to eleven of these. Have you EVER seen your kids swim?

We have been on four week long holidays already this year ... and nine weekends. I know, you had a Monday off about two weeks ago but everybody has that, its a Bank Holiday!

I won't bore you with details of Mrs Blogger but lets just say she's happy, VERY happy!

Home life good, business good!

But I know you are better than me, you drive your little truck from 6.30am until teatime, and again on a Saturday morning. I can't compete with you, you are so lucky, I wish I was you!

Christina Webb talks a lot of sense; thank you!.

An irreversible decision has been taken to remove comments that are personal and / or do not relate to Hafod Quarry Landfill Site / Waste Management in general.
You are free to make generic points about the protest groups, the wider anti Hafod campaign but not about individuals within the group.

Similarly, we will continue to post about Hafod, clay on the road, discharges into the brook, the sweeper causing chaos etc but not specifically about identifiable individuals.

Our concerns about individuals will from now on be made to their relevant line managers and / or the Regulatory Authorities in general. You are free to do the same.

If those of you who work in the waste Industry, or for whatever reason support Land Filling at Hafod Quarry, want to continue to post on that basis we will be happy to receive and answer your blogs, otherwise save your time as your posts will be deleted!

HAPPY BLOGGING!

When you started making bogus reports about drivers you used registration numbers didn't you? Who do you think the report affects most? The driver.

Probably about fifty - sixty different drivers / vehicles use the site each week. To my knowledge we have reported only around six / seven for (allegedly) dropping sponges, not being washed, smoking in the cab, abusive hand signals from the cab etc.

How do you think we chose the lucky six / seven? Via some form of Hafod Environmental Group lottery?

No mate it’s simple, when you leave the site and drop frag or clay on the road we will report you, if you put two fingers and mouth expletives at pensioners peacefully protesting we will report you. Do your jobs and behave yourselves, like the vast majority of drivers taking the MWH 30 Pieces of Silver and you will never have a problem with us!

Its not rocket science really is it!

(the weighbridge told us. That is my point. I know that false claims are being made which has been proved by CCTV

Then I suggest my friend that you take your evidence to the regulatory authorities and be a pain in the a*** until they take you seriously! WCBC et al will never willingly take action against MWH or anyone else that uses Hafod Landfill; if you had a single piece of CCTV footage which showed what you are claiming, WCBC would be delighted to take no action and would be very unlikely to instigate the proceeding they are about to!

So why haven’t you done it? It’s simple – because there is no big bag of sponges, only the vehicles themselves have thrown stuff out and you are talking nonsense!

If you’re not, and we are, then put you money where your mouth is ... or shut up!

At Sunday, May 27, 2007 7:29:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And another thing - if, and its a big if, this big bag of sponges exists where exactly did we get them from?

Have we been in the dead of night, over an eight foot barbed wire topped fence to gather it from the tipping area? Or was it floating passed me in the bath?

These type of sponges ONLY come from one place - you might try and pin the clay on the road on Dennis but are you saying they use sponges too?

I think you're talking what you carry mate but if you're not WCBC will be only too delighted to take no action against MWH!

What are the facts Anonymous 12.59 P M
May 28th?

1. Drivers did use mobile phones, smoke whilst driving and exceed the speed limit.

2. Some councillors in W C B C are as straight as a banana i.e the Dirty Dozen.

3. Members of the council staff were far from impartial when they assisted a councillor in a corrupt act which involved public expenditure.

4. When M W H commenced dumping refuse in August 2006 the police were more concerned about the waste operation and charging protesters than ensuring that
M W H employees observed the R T A.

5. The E A have to be informed about a breach of regulations, if they were not informed no action would be taken.
What are they being paid for?

6. It has been a known fact for decades that there are active freemasons in the council, councillors are there to represent the public not some secret organisation that has dubious connections.

7. As for the chippy owner you refer to,
it seems that you are the only one who is unaware of his activities.

So next time you decide to enter comments please check on the facts first.

Watchman, still no tower?

1. Drivers speeding. What was the measuring device used to record their speed? I have tried and tried but to get over 40mph on the run down Bangor road off the A483 and make the bend is not possible in an LGV. Unless it has a jet engine and parachute fitted. On the A483 every LGV would not get faster than 53mph as any vehicle made after 1987 is limited.
Mobile phones and smoking have nothing at all to do with Hafod so why bring that up?

2 and 3, I don't know anything about Wrexham council or the people who work there but to make allegations like that you must have proof or are more stupid than I give you credit for.

4 The police would be there to keep the peace so would act against agressive people.

5 The EA are probaly so sick of protest members crying wolf that taking up resorces chasing your fantasies is becoming a pain. That is not to say that every report is not looked into. I mean they have better things to do.

6. Not all the public agree with you.

7. I don't know this Eddie but if what you say is true (first time for everything) I think you are in trouble.

Facts checked.

Here is a fact to discuss.

I was talking to somebody who has been in the recycling/waste industry for over 20 years, mainly dealing in paper. In this country we have such a mountain of reclaimed material that the paper mills have filled their storage and are rejecting any intake because of the expense of extra storage. So where is going?
China are taking as much as they can get from us and the rest of the western world. Why?
To burn for fuel to power their industrial revolution. If we cut our carbon emmitions to zero in this country for the next hundred years China and India would still cancel that out in a year.

At Sunday, June 03, 2007 11:57:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Really what a suprise!
How then do you explain that before U P M at Shotton invested £6m in the building of a paper processing plant they required an undertaking from the local councils that they could guarantee to supply the company with paper.

The plant was built and is still in operation and that is where our waste paper is processed.

At Sunday, June 10, 2007 10:34:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think we covered this but you must be so full of education there is no room left for more information. MWH bought a landfill. Anybody could have bought it. BIFFA, Veolia, WRG or SITA could have opened it themselves. It could be sold and it would still be a landfill so to accuse MWH and council officials of corruption is just pointless. But you seem to think different so where is your proof.

At Sunday, June 10, 2007 12:28:00 PM, Blogger HafodBlogger said...

Why can’t MWH, WAG, WCBC and the EAW realise the the reason Hafod attracts more complaints than any other Landfill is because of its proximity to housing.
Within a mile of the site there are over 5000 people living in four large housing estates. If the site was further away from homes there would be no complainants as people would not be affected by the flies, odour, dust and noise.

Everybody accepts the site would not get planning permission under current planning regulations. The regulations are in place because landfill sites located close to housing do cause major problems. WAG has the option of rejecting the modification order and letting MWH fill phase A&B and then close the site.
This is all MWH bought the company were aware that no further tipping would be allowed due to the SAC site so no compensation would be payable. The precious clay and minerals now discovered on the site would be available for years to come and could be taken off site as and when needed by Dennis Ruabon.

If the WAG rejects this course of action it is inevitable that their motives would be questioned, there is no sound reason to allow MWH or anyone else to continue tipping in the rest of the site.

So 5000 houses near the site with atleast one adult in each. So, if people are so bothered, did the petition taken to Cardiff after weeks of campaigning all over Wrexham not contain more than double that in signatures?
Why are there so few at the gate in the mornings?
What ever education gives you it is not common sense.

People are starting to see the affects of the site now with flies in their houses and traffic chaos at the gate.
In a few years if the site is not stopped hundreds of people will be forced to watch the waste lorries dumping from their own windows.
If you honestly believe that Hafod landfill is good for the local community you must be insane.
Think about it Dull, we have had some fun on here with sarcastic arguments but in the cold light of day see Hafod for what it is, a horrendous affliction on the surrounding communities.

What traffic chaos?
Chaos is an 8 car pile up on the M6 in rush hour. The biggest impact on traffic is the new estates being built which create more waste to disposed of which will fill Pen Y Bont all the more quickly. Will you stop putting your bin out when the wagon that collects it tips in Hafod? It may go through the new recycling plant but there is little mention of what will happen to the residual waste. I think the official line is that it will be disposed of locally.

'...so to accuse MWH and council officials of corruption is just pointless. But you seem to think different so where is your proof'

It's coming! The EA and WCBC are big organisations, and in every big organisation some people get trodden on, it makes them very bitter, resentful ... even vengeful! And they talk, and watch and listen and photocopy! And sometimes what comes out is very interesting, very interesting indeed!

‘and the God Lord said there is a time for sharing’ (well it is Sunday!) and he was right, and when the time comes we’ll share. And there will be some very rattled people about!

So why wait? If what you say is true wouldn't it be better to remove the ones you claim are the enemies now?

I don't think they will be losing much sleep.

Well, I've just bought a nice bottle of £14.99 Chablis but don't think 10.10am on a Monday morning is quite when I had in mind to drink it, I'd best wait!

Also in the garage is a box of fireworks purchased from a friend; shall I let them off now or wait until a family birthday or November 5th. I'd best wait.

And in the January sales I bought a new, all singing, all dancing Christmas tree; its still in its box - would you have me put it up today? I'd best wait.

The best things in life are worth waiting for and believe me this will be worth waiting for. And the reason they won't be losing much sleep is because they don't know that what we know!

Actually, I might save the Chablis and the fireworks to celebrate the downfall of those who have screwed us and those who have pretended to help!

£14.99 for the Chablis. Somerfield have put their prices up then. You are right though. Better finish the other bottle you opened for breakfast.
Fireworks should be banned. If bright coloured lights and big bangs amuse you try going clubbing.
I hope that tree is not a real one or the kids are going to be disapointed.
While you wait, looking at things from your side of the ditch, the people you say have allowed the landfill to go ahead are still running the show. If you could out them could you not campaign for replacements who you favour?
That is why, with your answer, it is obvious they have nothing to worry about. It makes no difference to me.

You really should address that alcohol problem though.

That was not me blagger.

So who is the idiot now?

I was talking to a driver today who carries for Kronospan. For those who don't know they take a very large percentage of recycled wood that is salvaged in the NW England and North Wales areas.
They have a problem. They are so full of recycled material they have stopped intake.
So if anybody has any ideas what to do with the reclaimed wood mountain please post them.

To ignorant anonymous June 12 9.55 p.m.

For your information refuse is either animal, vegetable or mineral and it can all be recycled.
As for Kronospan having a problem with too much recycled wood, have they never heard of wood pulp being used to make paper or wood burning central heating boilers?
Maybe the M.P.for Clwyd South should ask their higher management in Austria how they manage to dispose of their surplus, that is if he can find time in between fighting the Mail on Sunday.

The other alternative is to ask the A.M to investigate the matter if you can find a horse fast enough to catch her.

Can somebody please inform the informer what Kronospan do. Why would they want paper pulp?
I thought that this protest was against incineration but they do use boilers burning recycled material.

A rubber duck is either a bath toy or a 360 degree excavator mounted on wheels rather than tracks. I have not seen either at Hafod.
